Room 12 News

Here are the happenings in our room the week of May 21:

Reading—We will work on a new story called “The Tiny Seed” and the skills for this story.   Please make sure that your child is reading at least 20 minutes every night—ask them about the story.

Religion—We will finish chapter 11 about acting on God’s word and the quiz will be on Friday (5-25).  We will review and study every day in class and will bring the book home on Thursday.

Social Studies—President’s Day was awesome!!!!   Both classes did a great job and I am really proud of them.  We will finish up this chapter with a test on Thursday (5-24).  The folders will come home to study and need to be returned to school on Thursday (5-24).

Handwriting—We have finished all the letters and are doing some of our work in cursive.   Fun!!  We do need to keep our printing neat.

Spelling—We will get list 21 and the test will be on Friday (5-25).  Study!

Language—We will review verb tense and quotation marks .  In Phonics we will review the er, ir ur and y sounds.

Twin Day is on Friday—-June 1.  We have been meeting with our “twin” in class and have made a list of possible things to wear.  Please feel free to help out with some suggestions but don’t go out and buy new clothes for this.  The “twins” will look awesome no matter what they wear.  Regular shoes and socks are required.  They will bring a note home on Monday explaining the special lunch so please discuss this with your child.  We will place our order later in the week.  If you do not want your child to have this lunch, they can bring one from home.

Thank You Again!!!!  The hanging plant, goodies in my mailbox, vase of flowers and wonderful treats were fantastic.  Teacher Appreciation Week made me feel very special!   You are too sweet!!

Room 12 News

I hope all the moms have a great Mother’s Day weekend!!    Here are the happenings in our room the week of May 14:

Reading—We will continue to work on the story “Mice and Beans” along with the workbook pages of skills.   We will also start a new story called “The Tiny Seed”.  Please make sure that your child is reading at least 20 minutes every night—ask them about the story.

Religion—We have started chapter 11 which is about acting on God’s words.

Social Studies—We have finished our chapter on the USA and will have our last test sometime during the week of May 21.  We are excited about our President presentation for the parents.  Please be here on time so you don’t miss seeing your child.  Room 12 is at 9:00 am and Room 13 is at 1:00 pm on the 17th.  Have them bring their contume to school in a bag on Thursday morning.

Handwriting—We are working hard on our cursive.  We are also writing our names and even some of our work in cursive.  We do need to keep our printing neat.

Spelling—We will get List 20 and the test will be on Friday (5-18).  Study!!

Language—We will review verbs.  In Phonics, we will review ir, er ur and y.

Room 12 News

Happy Mother’s Day!    Here is what’s happening in our room the week of May 7:

Reading—We will continue to work on the “Harbor Seal Pup” story and the skills that go with it.  We will also start a story called “Mice and Beans”.   We have finished our reading group chapter books and have started new ones.  We are also reading “The Mouse and the Motorcycle” as a class chapter book.   Please make sure that your child is reading at least 20 minutes every night—ask them about the story.

Religion—We will continue chapter 10 about God’s Word.  There will be a pop quiz this coming week—the children will have one night to look over the chapter.  We review every day so they should know the material.

Social Studies—We will finish learning about the Statue of Liberty (there will be a test soon).  We are also practicing for our presentation.   Please send the invitation’s RSVP back by Friday, May 11.   It is now time to start getting a costume together for the 17th.  We are excited!!

Handwriting—We are working hard on our cursive.  We learned all the capitals except for the G which we will do this week..

Spelling—We will get List 19 and the test will be on Friday (5-11).  Study!!

Language—We will continue to learn about verbs and past tense.  In Phonics, we will review the c and g sound along with the silent w and k.

**Mother’s Day was wonderful.  It was so nice to see everyone.  The second graders looked splendid again and did a great job at the May Crowning.

National Prayer Day was also very nice—the weather was perfect and so were the prayers.

**We are having a little trouble with “Spring Fever”.  Please remind your child that they still need to do their homework and stay focused in class.  We still have some things to learn before the end of the year.  Thank you!  The alternate uniform starts Monday so maybe that will help now that it’s a little warmer.

Happy May!    Here are the happenings in our room the week of April 30:

Religion—We have started chapter 10 which is about the Word of God.  May 3—National Prayer Day in the morning.

Social Studies—We will continue to learn about the Statue of Liberty and we have been practicing for our President presentation to the parents on May 17.  An invitation will come home on Tuesday.

Handwriting—We are working hard on our cursive.  We learned L, V, X and Z.  We just have a few more capital letters to learn.

Spelling—We will not have a list this coming week.

Language—We will continue to learn about verbs.  In Phonics, we will review syllables.

Emeline M.—-Room Captain (we do not need a poster for second times)

No art or computers on Friday, May 4.

 

**Mother’s Day is May 4.  Our tradition during Mass is to have a May Crowning and second grade will be part of that tradition.  We are asking that the second graders wear their First Communion clothes on Mother’s Day.  The children will meet me in the back of church right after they have gone to communion.

 

*Please remember to start looking for things that can become a costume for Social Studies when we do the President presentations.  These costumes must fit over uniforms (I have talked about this in class).  Send them in a bag on the morning of May 17—make sure your child knows how to put this costume on but I will be a helper if needed.

Food Drive–April 30 to May 10—check the note that went home today.

 ***Many notes along with Friday folders went into backpacks today (Friday) so please empty out the backpack and homework folder to see these important messages.

Room 12 News

It’s almost the end of April—hard to believe!    Here are the happenings in our room the week of April 23:

Reading—We will work on the story “Office Buckle and Gloria” along with the skills for this story.   Please make sure that your child is reading at least 20 minutes every night—ask them about the story.   Thank you!

Religion—We will finish chapter 9 about God’s love and have our test on Wednesday (4-25).  The book will come home Monday and Tuesday to study.

Social Studies—We will start to learn about the Statue of Liberty.  We will also start practicing for our President Presentation and will bring home an invitation soon.  Remember, it is on May 17—-room 12 at 9:00 and room 13 at 1:00 (lasting about 45 minutes).

Handwriting—We have learned the letters S and W.   We are also working in our cursive workbooks.  We do need to be neater in our printing.

Spelling—We will get list 18 and the test will be on Friday (4-27).  Study!

Language—We will continue to learn about verbs.  In Phonics, we will review syllables and the s, g and c sounds.

Room 12 Happenings

Here are the happenings in our room the week of April 16:

Reading—We have started our new book and are working on the story “Head, Body, Legs” along with skills in our workbook.   We have also started a new class chapter book called “The Mouse and the Motorcycle”.   Please make sure that your child is reading at least 20 minutes every night (ask them about the story).  Thank you!

Religion—We have started chapter 9 which is about God’s love.   We will have a test the week of April 23.  It will be put in their planners next week.  Tuesday is an All School Mass.

Social Studies—We will finish talking about being president and start to learn about Washington D.C..  We will also start to prepare for our presentation to the parents on May 17.  An invitation will come home soon.  Don’t forget to plan a costume so your child can be the President or First Lady.

Handwriting—We are working hard on our cursive.  We have learned the letters v, x and z.  We can now learn the last tricky connections and then finish the capital letters.

Spelling—We will get list 17 and the test will be on Friday (4-20).  Study!

Language—We will continue to learn about verbs.  We will review the ow and long/short e  sounds in Phonics.

Room 12 News

Happy Spring!  Hopefully the weather will warm up again soon.  Here is what will be happening when we get back from vacation:

Reading—We will start our new reading book and work on the story “Head, Body, Legs”.  We will also work on skills that go with the story.   Please make sure that your child is reading at least 20 minutes every night—even on vacation (ask them about the story).  Thank you!

Religion—We will go over our last chapter in our First Communion books.  These books will then come home to keep.   We will also start chapter 9 in our regular Religion books which is all about God’s love.  Remember—banners are due by Tuesday, April 10!  First Communion is almost here—Saturday, April 14 and Sunday, April 15!!

Social Studies—We are going to learn about being president.  We are also starting to get ready for our President Presentation in front of the parents.  An invitation will come home soon.  Remember—only 2 adults and no siblings–thanks!

Printing—We are working hard on our cursive.  We have learned the letters Y and y.

Spelling—We will not have a list due to the short week when we get back.

Language—We will start to learn about verbs.  We will review c, g and s sounds in Phonics.

**Reminder:  Please try to have your child in the classroom by 8:05.  When the second bell rings at 8:10, we need to start class (with prayers & pledge) which is difficult to do when children are unpacking.  We also have days with Mass and a few specials that start first thing and we don’t want to be late.  Thanks!

Vacation starts today Friday, March 30!  Yea!!  I hope everyone has a wonderful time away from school.  I’ll see all the students on Tuesday, April 10.

Reminder:  First Communion practice is on Friday, April 13.  The Saturday people will practice from 4:30 to 6 and the Sunday people will practice from 6:30 to 8.  An adult must be present at this practice.

The “Bat Presentation” was wonderful.  Ask your child to tell you all about it.

Happy Spring!!    Here are the happenings in our room this coming week:

Reading—We will continue to work on reading group work and some skills that need to be reviewed.   Now that we have finished our reading book, we will do some testing before we start a new book after Easter.  Please make sure that your child is reading at least 20 minutes every night (ask them about the story).  Thank you!

Religion—We will learn more about Lent and Holy Week.   Remember—-First Communion books need to be completed and sent to school by March 30 or before.  We are getting excited—the big day is almost here!

Social Studies—We are learning about the flag and will work on posters for our President Presentation for the parents.   A note will come home on Monday about the date and times for this special second grade event.

Handwriting—We are working hard on our cursive.  We have learned the letter s and are reviewing old letters.

Spelling—We will not have a list this coming week.  Yea!

Language—We will learn about writing a letter and adressing an envelope.  We will learn about final digraphs in Phonics.

Our “bat presentation” is on Friday (3-30).  We are excited to see some real bats and learn new information about these amazing creatures.

Spring Break starts on Friday, March 30 at 3:15 and the students return to school on Tuesday—April 10.  If you are leaving early, please let me know.  Thank You!!

Reminder:  The First Communion Retreat is Saturday (3-24).  We will start with 8:30 Mass.  Your child will get a name tag at the back of church before Mass.  After Mass, you will gather in the FSCR to find out the order of the morning.  Your child will be doing some fun activities along with lunch.  The morning should end around 1:00.  Make sure at least one adult spends the morning with your child.  If you can’t come, please let Mrs. Hundsrucker know so that we can save some things for your child.

Room 12 News

We sure do love this weather!  I think we all have a little bit of spring fever!  Here are the happenings in our room this coming week:

Reading—We will continue to work on the last selections in our reading book and the workbook pages that go over the skills.   Please make sure that your child is reading at least 20 minutes every night (ask them about the story).  Thank you!

Religion—We did a great job on our test.  We have started chapter 8 which is also about being sorry.  This is pretty much a revirw chapter so we will have a test on this chapter on Thursday (3-22).  After that, we will talk more about Lent and Easter. Remember—our First Communion Retreat is Saturday (3-24) —8:30 to 1:00.

Social Studies—We have learned a lot about the presidents so we will now start to learn about our country.  We will start with the flag.

Printing—We are working hard on our cursive.  We have learned the letters M, N, R and w.   We need to remember to keep our printing neat especially on homework assignments.

Spelling—We will get List 16 and the test will be on Friday (3-23).  Study!!

Language—We will continue to study possessives.   We will also review digraphs in Phonics.

****Reminder:  First Communion books should be finished by the end of March.  I want them to be brought to school by March 30 so that I can go over the material with the classes after Easter vacation.  We are getting close to the big day which is very exciting.

Monday morning is the assembly with the author Jonathan Rand.  It should be fun.

March 30 is the end of the third quarter.  I’m very proud of each student—they are working really hard (as you can see when the Friday folders come home).  Many of us are still struggling with chattiness and not listening to directions so we need to continue to work on this skill.

Room 12 News

I think we all have a touch of Spring fever!  The weather has been awesome!    Here are the happenings in our room this coming week:

Reading—We will finish reading some short stories at the end of our book and continue to work on the skills in the workbook.  We will also work in our reading group chapter books.   Please make sure that your child is reading at least 20 minutes every night (ask them about the story).  Thank you!

Religion—We will start to work on chapter 8 which is about making choices.  Please do  chapter 7 in the First Communion books and have them brought to school by March 30.  First Communion is just around the corner!   We will also talk some more about Lent.  Remember to check out the Blest Are We website (see “Links” page).

Social Studies—We will finish sharing our President reports and we have been enjoying hearing about these men.  I will let you know before the end of March when we plan to invite the parents to school for our presentation.

Printing—We are working hard on our cursive.  We have learned the letters m, n, H and K.

Spelling—No list this week—yea!

Language—We will start to  learn about possessives.  We will continue to work on blends in Phonics.
