PEACE BE WITH YOUR SPIRIT
The First Graders are working on keeping their hand and feet to themselves, listening carefully, following directions, and working and playing safely. They are getting ready for Second Grade. Polite behavior is also an important life-skill. Thank you for practicing these skills at home.
We have been very busy learning new skills in First Grade! We have a new “Treasures” Reading/Language Arts Program by Macmillan/McGraw-Hill. We have been enjoying small reading groups, reading with someone and reading all together! Please continue to read, read, read more books at home.

Homework will go home daily. A NEW SYSTEM of Homework every night started April 16. The Homework will be DUE the NEXT school day. The students have been doing a good job getting the work back on time. Reading 30 minutes each day is a very important part of the Homework. Reading aloud to an adult helps the student with comprehension, fluency, and vocabulary.
The Friday Folders went home May18.Please review and fix mistakes and return the Folders Monday. The students worked really hard doing their best. Please practice listening skills at home.
Practice all the Spelling words found in the Weekly Updates Section of this website. The Spelling TEST 05/25/12. A SPECIAL NOTE: Continue to study all the words throughout the school year. Mastering the Spelling words will help with the Writing Process.
During the next few weeks, our math class will be learning and practicing addition and subtraction of two-digit numbers. Enjoy working with this at home!
In Math class the students have learned about time, by the hour and half-hour as well as reading and using the calendar. PLEASE PRACTICE THESE SKILLS AT HOME.
Our Math class has learned about money. You can expect to see more work that provides practice with counting money amounts, using pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters. As we continue to learn about money, you may wish to use coins at home. Knowing how to count money can help children with real-life skills.
Please continue to drill Math Facts to 20 (flash cards) with your child at home. Please DRILL, DRILL, DRILL. The facts should be MEMORIZED. Practice related facts and fact families, you may wish to use the following sample as a guide.

The students are earning “Smart Cookies” for doing good deads. Thank you for “Treasures” for the “Reward Box”. Many of the students have visited the box. We are proud!
